The references in the paragraphs below refer to the referencing system used by Jersey Archive.  

Wills and Testaments

The Probate Division c1669-1949 D/Y/A and Probate division post 1949, D/Y/B holds wills and testaments of movable property from 1660-1999.  

Wills and testaments can contain information relating to the heirs of the family and division of property.  All wills and testaments from 1660-1976 have been catalogued and are indexed under Person/institution.  Most are available online. 

Property Transactions

Public Registry Index and Document Enrolment (PRIDE) - Registration of all transactions of property deeds, wills of immovable property, such as land and houses also various contracts registered through the Royal Court, began in 1602. Transactions or contracts from c.1800 onwards can be searched through the database available at Jersey Archive. PRIDE is a secure database that is managed by the Government of Jersey and offers public access to records and is added to continually, therefore it can only be accessed in person at the Jersey Archive. Contracts from 1602 - 1800 are available on microfilm or as digital copies. Access is limited to ‘in-person access’.

Court Records

For those wishing to delve a little further into their family history, the Jersey Archive holds documents detailed under the Judicial Greffe (the Judicial Greffe is the registrar or keeper of records for the Royal Court of Jersey).  In the members' area of this website, there is a breakdown of documents held in different branches of the Royal Court.
